Several major airlines have canceled hundreds of flights due to the ongoing forest fires across Sumatra and Kalimantan which continues to generate toxic smog across the Straits of Malacca all the way to Malaysia. The seasonal forest fires began to spread in July and have deteriorated rapidly this month, affecting more than 300 thousand hectares of land, with Central and West Kalimantan getting hit the worst. Neighbor Malaysia is pressuring Indonesia to address the wildfires and step up enforcement to prevent future illegal burns. Our heart goes to those whose lives affected by the fire and hopes that these catastrophic fires can be mitigated once and for all.
